Dogs are human’s best friend for a reason. They provide so much love and comfort. Their companionship helps make one a better person and feel better about their day. They reduce stress and increase happiness by just being around us. One dog, named Honey, is providing joy and comfort to the senior residents at Sunrise of Wall Living Center near Belmar, New Jersey. She is a rescue dog and now her only job is to spread love and joy at the Senior Living Center.

Honey was a foster dog in the home of Sunrise of Wall’s executive director, Brian Cook. But she didn’t exactly fit in there with his entire family and all the other dogs. However, the moment she spent some time at the Senior home, he realized that was where she belonged. She opened up and was immediately a hit with all the residents. Everyone loved having her there so much they set up a “big bed lined with an orange and yellow plaid blanket, red water and food bowls, and lots of toys” near the concierge desk.

Now, she greets everyone who walks through the door and all the residents when they go to the lobby. According to the residents and Cook, she just instinctively knows who needs her. She knows who to rest her head on or go to for a belly rub and the residents love her. One even sneaks her biscuits.

Honey is the reason some families choose Sunrise for their elder. One woman loves dogs and her family knew she’d be happy there with Honey’s infectious joy.

Sunrise encourages all their managers of their 329 facilities to have a dog, cat, or both. They also have a soft spot for senior animals, Heather Easterling, a regional director of memory care and planning, told The Philadelphia Enquirer, where you can also see photos of Honey.

Honey was just meant to be there and loves living there as much as the residents and staff love having her.
