Shirley Raines is the founder of Beauty 2 the Streetz, her amazing organization through which she provides services and supplies to the homeless. Specifically, her mission is to give make up, showers, hair color, and more to homeless women. Her slogan is “Not all Queens live in castles, some live on the streets.” But her compassion extends beyond women and beyond her initial mission. In light of the deadly, dangerous coronavirus outbreak, she has decided to give homeless people more of the supplies that they’ll need.
Raines helped the homeless while still practicing social distancing to protect her health and the health of others. She can be seen below carefully providing for the homeless of Skid Row (an area of Los Angeles known for being impoverished) who are extremely grateful.
Raines told ABC News: “Social distance is a luxury that the homeless can’t afford. There are 60,000 homeless people in L.A. that have nowhere to go.” They reported: “As the government began issuing warnings about social distancing, Raines continued to serve the homeless in her community by providing them with hand sanitizer, Vitamin C and warm meals.”
The next time you feel bored and are tired of being at home, please remember the homeless people of Skid Row who have nowhere to go and would love to have a place called home where they can be bored. Thankfully, there are incredible, generous, and compassionate people out there like Shirley Raines doing amazing work and making sure no one is forgotten.
