Many of us will be missing the full dining-out experience – but there’s also nothing quite like sticking on a film and enjoying a takeaway on the sofa.
Fortunately for us there are plenty of places across Cumbria that are happy to deliver the food of your fancy to your front door.
Takeaway menus can be limited compared to some restaurant menus – but these businesses have certainly taken things up a notch and are offering an impressive array of dishes. Have a look at this list of 25 choices and see if anything tickles your fancy…
1. Pizza Base, Lonsdale Street
Pizza Base has been serving the community for around 30 years and continues to provide for its customers during lockdown.
Name a pizza topping and Pizza Base is likely to offer it.
But if you would prefer a kebab, burger, or wrap, the restaurant on Lonsdale Street also has you covered.
2. Bluerare, Carleton Road
Bluerare promises to deliver restaurant-quality meals to your door.
It offers traditional fare including steak pie, bean chilli and sausage and mash and a variety of homemade desserts.
It also delivers roast dinners which are available seven days a week.
3. Sweet Tooth, Devonshire Street
If you don’t fancy a hot, savoury meal, Sweet Tooth could be the place to go.
Milkshakes, crepes, cookie dough, ice cream, chocolate kebabs – it offers the lot.
Whichever option you go for, you will have difficulty choosing from the variety of flavours and toppings.
4. Cafe Central Carlisle, Central Avenue
While many takeaways don’t open until late afternoon, Cafe Central is there for those with a large appetite in the morning.
The cafe will deliver hot breakfast baguettes, pancakes and even a ‘giant Yorkshire pudding breakfast’.

The chinese restaurant offers an array of rice and noodle dishes for both meat-lovers and vegetarians.
One of their most popular dishes is the salt and pepper munchy box, which consists of spare ribs, chicken wings, shredded chicken, shredded beef, chicken balls and finally, chips.
10. Royal Istanbul, Crellin Street
The takeaway was hailed as the ‘best in Barrow’ by one online reviewer.
Royal Istanbul offers a variety of kebabs and pizzas, burgers and wraps, all of which can be delivered to your door.
11. Mr Cheeko’s, Crellin Street
You might have a hard time choosing what you fancy when you take a look at Mr Cheeko’s menu.
The takeaway offers a bit of everything, including burgers, wraps, tacos, stir frys, kebabs and chicken wings.
You can even build your own ‘XXL skyscraper burger’ which includes an unlimited amount of sauces and extras.
If you need something sweet to finish off, there are plenty of indulgent waffles and milkshakes to choose from.

From meat feast to cheese and tomato, Geno’s Pizzeria offers a variety of pizza toppings to serve on their freshly baked dough.
The pizzeria also delivers kebabs, burgers and wraps.

Marmaris offers a vast selection of pizza, burger and kebab varieties.
There are also all the extras that you would expect, including cheesy chips, hot wings and popcorn chicken.
14. Eastern Balti, Wildman Street
Eastern Balti sets the standards high, claiming everything created in the kitchen is ‘sublime.’
The restaurant aims to ‘enhance and elevate the Indian classics’ and offers just about every variety of curry.
15. Frydays of Kendal, New Road
The family-run fish and chip shop cooks with fresh fish and local ingredients.
The award-winning takeaway even has a dedicated potato room to ensure they provide the ‘best quality traditional chips.’
Frydays has been doing deliveries via their own app for the last 18 months, however it is currently closed while it undergoes a major refurbishment.
The renovation came to an abrupt halt due to the lockdown, however the works have restarted and deliveries will resume once it reopens.
16. The Hungry Caterpillar, Finkle Street
From gourmet steak and chicken burgers to a vegetarian Quorn pizza, The Hungry Caterpillar certainly likes to do things differently.
The restaurant will also deliver hot wraps, bagels and customised healthy lunch bowls to your door.
17. Sadie’s Takeaway, Jane Street
For those who are partial to a drink during lockdown, one of the most popular offerings is the Chef’s special ‘hangover cure,’ a box filled with kebab, chips and chicken shawarma topped with cheese, with a choice of dip and a soft drink.
Other specialities include halloumi fries, BBQ spare ribs and hot wings.
