Novapizza in Edinburgh reopened its doors to the public yesterday, but previous patrons will no longer find animal ingredients on the menu as it has reopened as an entirely plant-based Italian restaurant.
The restaurant has been open since 2015 and was the first meat-free Italian restaurant and pizzeria in Edinburgh, but now it’s ditched animal products from its menu entirely to become 100% vegan.
According to the Novapizza website: “Our inspiration is to combine the best of what Italian, vegan cuisine can offer. We are known for our sustainable, meat-free and vegan friendly menu.”
Vegan diners in Edinburgh will be no stranger to Edinburgh’s first Italian vegan restaurant, Sora Lella, whose chef Maddalena Pezone is the new owner and manager of Novapizza.
Nova Pizza has a mouth-watering menu of traditional Italian dishes made from locally sourced, sustainable ingredients all with a vegan twist.
A carb-lovers dream, diners will find a whole host of pasta and pizzas to choose from including carbonara, puttanesca and bolognese.
Keen to push plant-based innovation in the kitchen, Nova Pizza’s menu also lists a seitan steak served with homemade red wine sauce and vegan calzone stuffed with plant-based cheese.
The dessert menu is also full of tasty delights such as an Oreo cheesecake and artisan chocolate desserts.
Announcing the takeover on Instagram, Nova Pizza wrote: “Our inspiration is to combine the best of what Italian and vegan cuisine can offer. We are known for our sustainable, meat-free and vegan-friendly menu. We’ve replaced vegetarian options with new mouthwatering vegan alternatives which we cannot wait for you to try.
“Novapizza is now owned and managed by Maddalena Pezone. Most of you might know her as she was the head chef at Novapizza up until last year when she opened her own vegan restaurant Sora Lella. So the food quality, warm atmosphere and our Roman family values remain the same.”
Novapizza is based in Stockbridge area of Edinburgh at 42 Howe Street EH3 6TH.
