A Chester chef has launched a pop-up picnic service where customers can try a whole range of different kinds of cuisines.
Phil Jones, a chef at the Rake and Pikel pub in Huntington, made headlines a few months ago after putting his furlough leave to good use by cooking hundreds of free meals for vulnerable residents during lockdown.
Now he’s turned his hand to something else – Pop Up Picnics, in which he puts together a variety of different themed picnics that local people can collect straight from his house.
There are lots of feasts to choose from, such as The Retro Picnic- which includes old school snacks like Iced Gems, Trio bars and cheese and pineapple on sticks; The Jamaican Picnic – featuring Montego Jerk chicken wings and other Jamiaican fare; and The American Picnic – which includes American hot dogs, dirty fries and popcorn chicken.
Meanwhile, you can also get authentic Spanish Tapas picnics, Ploughman’s Retro picnic and Afternoon Tea picnics, with both savoury and sweet options.
Phil’s picnics are proving such a hit that he’s had customers come and collect them from Nantwich, Crewe, Warrington and even Liverpool.
Vegetarians, vegans and coeliacs are all catered for too, with different choices added each week.
In the future Phil is planning Oktoberfest and Chinese themed picnics to add to his repertoire.
British Picnics are £12 each or two for £20 and each box includes a drink of prosecco, wine, beer or a soft drink.
World Picnics are £14 each or two for £24 as they include more.
