A vegan street food brand which specialises in fried ‘chickhun’ is set to launch its first restaurant, here in its hometown of Leicester.

Huns will open in Welford Road next week, serving its regular fried chickhun burgers, loaded fries, plus a few new specials.

One burger that will be on the menu is the Chickhun Big Mac – made with burger sauce, American cheese, fries, onion, pickles and lettuce – which was chosen by Huns fans on Facebook to be the next monthly special.

Chickhun fillets are individually handmade using seitan and coated in a secret blend of herbs and spices.

The Leicester brand was launched in November 2018 by Charlotte Harrison and Frankie Sharman, who have been travelling around the UK catering at street food events, festivals, vegan markets and pop-ups.

During lockdown, they provided a takeaway delivery service, before moving to a cook at home kit delivery service.

Talking about the new eatery, the duo told LeicestershireLive that as soon as they saw the property, they knew it was the one for them as they have a large customer base around the area.

Huns, at 439a Welford Road, will open for the first time on Thursday, August 27.

In order to manage social distancing, it will initially open for collections and deliveries via Uber Eats only.
