JUST Egg will now be available at more than 17,000 U.S. retail outlets, representing a 41 percent increase in its retail footprint.

Made from mung beans, the plant-based egg first launched in the retail sector in April 2019 at Whole Foods Markets and Sprouts Farmers Markets. JUST Egg is sold in a bottle as a liquid, suitable for vegan scrambled eggs and omelettes, and as folded, pre-cooked, frozen egg that can be cooked easily and quickly in a toaster, microwave, or skillet.

In its largest expansion to date, JUST Egg bottles have expanded to new Walmart, Food Lion, and Giant stores, and JUST foldable egg will now be sold in Kroger’s, Albertsons, Safeway, Jewel-Osco, Randalls, Tom Thumb, and Acme stores.

“Bringing JUST Egg to thousands of additional cities and towns across America is a proud moment for our team,” Josh Tetrick, CEO of Eat Just (formerly JUST), said. “Our products are quickly becoming part of the breakfast ritual for families across the country and we look forward to sharing JUST Egg with millions more in the months and years ahead.”

According to Forbes, Eat Just owns 99% of the plant-based egg category which has experienced 192% growth in sales in 2019 while conventional egg sales dropped in the same time period.

Last month, Eat Just celebrated selling the vegan equivalent of 50 million chicken eggs. The COVID-19 pandemic has also boosted sales, pushing Eat Just to consider an initial public offering (IPO).

“It makes it more likely we’ll go public sooner,” CEO Josh Tetrick told Reuters regarding the boost in sales. “The target to hit operating profitability is some time before the end of 2021.”

“Once we hit operating profitability, then I’ll really begin considering an IPO with my team and with my board and with some of our major shareholders,” he said.
