Ben & Jerry’s has announced a new podcast discussing America’s history of racism and white supremacy, another step in the company’s commitment to fighting racial injustice.

The ice cream brand is launching the six-part series titled “Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America” as part of  The Who We Are Project, in collaboration with Vox Media.

The podcast will premiere September 15 and it will be hosted by New York Times bestselling author Carvell Wallace with Jeffery Robinson, deputy legal director of the ACLU and the director of the ACLU Trone Center for Justice and Equality.

“In the wake of George Floyd’s murder, America faces a racial reckoning — one that requires an honest look at the American history that has allowed and encouraged white supremacy to thrive for the last 400 years,” the companies said in a joint statement.

The podcast will “show the hidden ways legal discrimination and state-sanctioned brutality continued long after slavery ended, profoundly limiting Black Americans’ ability to gain access to jobs, housing, education, and health care; or to create and accumulate wealth,” according to the statement.

Ben & Jerry’s has a long history of social, political, and environmental activism from protesting oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in 2005 to leading campaigns fighting for voting rights, LGBT rights, and aggressive action to address climate change.

The company released a “Justice ReMix’d” flavor in 2019, to highlight structural racism and issues within the criminal justice system.

Earlier this summer, the company publicly denounced the actions that led to the police killing of George Floyd, supporting the passage of H.R. 40 to create the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans.

“Our company has been centering our activism and advocacy work in the US on issues of racial justice and equity for the last five years and specifically on the need to reform our nation’s criminal justice system for the last two years,” Jay Curley, Ben & Jerry’s global head of integrated marketing, told CNN. “This podcast is part of our larger body of work on these issues.”
